ENV 205 Our Environment Through Data (Units: 3)

Prerequisites: Restricted to sophomore standing and above; GE Area 2/B4; GEOG 101 or ERTH 112 or ERTH 230 or equivalent.

Data-driven methods and techniques in understanding our environment, including data acquisition, elementary statistics, and spatial analysis through map reading, GIS, and remote sensing. Lecture, 2 units; activity, 1 unit. [Formerly GEOG 205]

ENV 500GW Physical and Human Dimensions of Climate Change - GWAR (Units: 3)

Prerequisites: GE Area 1A/A2; GEOG 101 or ERTH 112 or ERTH 230 or equivalent.

An interdisciplinary investigation of climate change including the causes, environmental and societal impacts as well as mitigation and adaptation strategies. Bridges traditional biophysical and social science fields of investigation, and explores multiple associated writing conventions. (Plus-minus ABC/NC grading only) [Formerly GEOG 500GW]

ENV 605 Statistics for Environmental Analysis (Units: 3)

Prerequisite for GEOG 705: Graduate standing.
Prerequisites for ENV 605: Upper-division standing; ENV 205 or equivalent.

Methods of statistical analysis and review of their use in environmental research literature; univariate and multivariate analysis, graphical presentation; statistical software. Lecture, 2 units; laboratory, 1 unit.
(GEOG 705/ENV 605 is a paired course offering. Students who complete the course at one level may not repeat the course at the other level.)

ENV 690 Capstone Seminar (Units: 3)

Prerequisites: Senior School of the Environment students; ENV 205 and ENV 500GW.

Develop an integrated view of the majors in the School of the Environment. Explore future applications of education and training in varied careers or further academic work and reflect on academic achievements through development of a professional portfolio. [Formerly GEOG 690]

ENV 789 Graduate Internship (Units: 3)

Prerequisite: Graduate standing in the School of the Environment and permission of the instructor.

Professional work experience: students will complete 135 hours of work with sponsoring agencies or organizations under the supervision of a faculty member and an on-site work supervisor. (Plus-minus letter grade only) [Formerly GEOG 789]

ENV 801 Scope and Method in Environmental Research (Units: 3)

Prerequisite: Graduate standing in the School of the Environment or permission of the instructor.

Introduction to graduate study. Critical reading and discussion of scholarly literature on relevant themes and topics such as developing oral and written presentations and preparation for thesis research. (Plus-minus letter grade only) [Formerly GEOG 801]

ENV 815 Seminar in GIScience (Units: 3)

Prerequisites: Graduate School of the Environment students; upper-division coursework in GIScience; or permission of the instructor.

Theoretical development of GIScience with emphasis on exploring and discussing research literature in geographic information systems, remote sensing, and spatial analysis. (Plus-minus letter grade only.) [Formerly GEOG 815]
