Minor in Sexuality Studies
The Sexuality Studies minor offers students a broad understanding of sexuality that fosters a multidisciplinary appreciation of sexuality across communities and histories. We focus on exploring sexuality through social, cultural, and artistic lenses that allow for centering sexuality as an essential factor in a variety of disciplines as well as movements.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Examine sexuality from different theoretical and methodological approaches to explore multiple dimensions of social, cultural, historical, biological, political, and/or psychological contexts and meanings.
- Identify variations in sexual practices, behaviors, cultures, communities, and movements across history and geography.
- Analyze structural inequalities from an intersectional approach to understand their impact on sexual identities, sexual health, sexual practices, and pleasure.
- Apply social justice concepts to the material conditions we exist in to remain critical of, and enhance awareness around, interventions, advocacy, and activism surrounding sexuality.
- Demonstrate understanding of sexuality studies from a multidisciplinary framework and writing proficiency through completion of a guided research project.
Sexuality Studies, Minor — 12 units minimum
The Minor in Sexuality Studies consists of a minimum of 12 units of interdisciplinary undergraduate study. Courses taken in the minor can also be used to meet requirements in majors, other minors, and in General Education.
All coursework used to satisfy the requirements of the minor must be completed for a letter grade and with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
A minimum of 6 upper-division units are required to complete the minor.
