Certificate in Data Science and Machine Learning for Biotechnology
The interdisciplinary field of Data Science (DS) has emerged as one of the fastest growing fields of our times. One of the most impactful applications of Data Science has been for the field for Biotechnology. Statistical modelling and Machine Learning (ML) is being increasingly used to investigate long standing problems in biotechnology and to develop solutions to some of the most critical challenges of our times.
The certificate program is designed to provide a strong foundation in theory, tools, and techniques of machine learning and data science for biotechnology. Students will learn and practice the skills involved in synthesizing machine learning and data science concepts around the big questions in biotechnology to solve real-life problems. Students will also gain experience in effective scientific communication skills that are needed to convey information to multidisciplinary audiences from different functional areas of the biotechnology field.
this certificate a grade of C or higher in BIOL 230 or BIOL 100 and a grade of C or higher in CSC 220 or CSC 311.
CSC 408, CSC 411, and CSC 509 have to be enrolled with letter grade grading option. Credit / no credit (CR/NC) grading option is not acceptable for these three courses for this minor.

CSC 408, CSC 411, and CSC 509 must be taken for a letter grade.
