Bachelor of Arts in Music – MUS Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) Roadmap
This is a sample pathway for students who transfer to San Francisco State University in the current Bulletin year with an AA-T in Music. At least 7 units in the major (MUS 221, MUS 222, MUS 232, possibly MUS 201, MUS 202) and all lower-division GE requirements have been satisfied. Check with a major advisor about the most appropriate course sequence. Degree completion guaranteed in 60 units; see the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) section for more information.
To Do at SF State:
Enough total units to reach 120 minimum for graduation; 30 units minimum at the upper-division level; to include the following:
University-Wide Requirements: 9-15 units
- American Institutions (6 units): US History, US Government, California State and Local Government requirements if not taken before transfer.
- Upper-Division GE Areas 2UD/5UD, 3UD, and 4UD (9 units).
- Students entering this major with the AA-T in Music are not required to fulfill SF State Studies requirements.
Music BA Major: 36-38 units
(MUS 221, MUS 222, and MUS 232 completed in ADT; class piano may have been completed in ADT) depending on the number of requirements met via ADT.
- Lower-Division Core (11-13 units): MUS 201 and either MUS 202 or MUS 206, if not taken for ADT; MUS 130, MUS 200, MUS 237, and MUS 281.
- Upper-Division Core/GWAR (7 units).
- Music History (6 units).
- Electives (12 units) – Selected from MUS courses numbered above 299 in consultation with a Music faculty advisor.
University Electives: 3 or more units
Depends on course choices made at the community college, how transferred units are applied to the requirements above, and course choices at SF State - some courses may meet more than one requirement, e.g., UD GE and the major.
