Graduate Certificate in Learning Experience Design and Online Teaching Innovation
This 12-unit graduate certificate prepares students for careers in instructional design, e-learning, and instructional technologies. It is designed for individuals who aspire to become learning solution designers, learning and development specialists, and learning architects. This program equips students with essential skills for work in a variety of educational settings, including K-12 schools, colleges and universities, educational non-profits, government agencies, and corporate training environments.
The curriculum emphasizes practical application and prepares students to perform needs assessments, analyze performance issues, and leverage contemporary instructional design theories to create innovative learning solutions. Students will gain experience with industry-standard development software to design effective e-learning courses, equipping them with the expertise to meet the evolving needs of today’s digital learning environments.
Admission to the Program
To be considered for admission to this Graduate Certificate, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree: must be posted by the time the student enters the program
- GPA: 3.0 overall in baccalaureate coursework
- Written English Proficiency Requirement (WEP)
- Foundational competency in basic computer software and hardware skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Application
Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 grade point average in the last 60 units of college coursework.
New applicants to the Certificate program need to apply through Cal State Apply. In your application, you must include two letters of recommendation, transcripts of all college coursework, a résumé, and a 500-1,000 word statement of purpose documenting your interest in this Certificate program.
Continuing SFSU students currently enrolled in a post-baccalaureate credential program or MA program only need to submit the Certificate Admissions Application for admission to the certificate program.
Award of Certificate
When all certificate coursework has been completed, the student will submit a Certificate of Approved Program (CAP) form.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Students design educational solutions to address knowledge or performance gaps by following a systematic instructional process and using industry-standard tools to develop effective, multimedia-based instructional materials.
- Students plan and conduct effective formative and summative evaluations for a variety of instructional settings. Students develop and use data-gathering and assessment instruments effectively throughout the design process.
